A Barn Extension and Renovation

We’re currently working on a large barn extension to a property in Cambridgeshire.

The new extension will be open plan, with high ceilings, big windows and huge patio doors opening out onto the courtyard. It will be a lovely sunny space once it’s finished! The foundations have been laid, with underfloor heating in place. The insulated brick walls are going up, electrical work is well underway, and the frames for the four windows are in.

This brick wall will be left exposed, so we’ve worked very closely with our clients to make sure they are completely happy with the results, and carefully sourced a variety of bricks to bring some lovely colours to the wall. Bricks

The wall for the extension has been built along a pre existing boundary of the property, so in order to restore the history of the site we’ve made sure that our new wall follows the old pattern. This has proved slightly challenging, and involved getting an aborculturalist out to look at a tree growing too close to the the path of the old wall. Luckily, we were able to get permission from planners to remove the tree so that we could build in line with the original wall.

Birdcage scaaffolding has gone up, and the the oak beam trusses have all been lifted into place using a crane. These have been safely secured in place by our carpenters.

The structure of the new glass connecting corridor is nearly complete, and the windows will all be going in soon.

There’s still lots of work to do here, so expect lots more updates over the next couple of months!
