Rebecca Nason

Rebecca is a passionate naturalist, ecologist, birder, tour-leader & wildlife photographer. Originally from Cambridge, her varied career took off after she graduated from Winchester with an Upper second class Hons Degree in Geography & Environmental Studies followed by a Certificate in Ornithology from Cambridge & an MSc in Conservation Management from Otley College, Suffolk (UEA). She soon started taking environmental based contracts, often in remote, Island locations in between travelling extensively abroad.

Rebecca spent 2003 & 2004 as Assistant Warden/Seabird Monitoring Officer on Fair Isle, Shetland, where she fell in love with the job, the place, the people, the birds & the incredible photographic opportunities. She spent the next decade taking various ecological contracts & visiting Fair Isle & Shetland as often as she could, usually 3 times a year, in the Spring & Autumn for migration & in the Summer to help with seabird work & take photographs. She has been a full member of the CIEEM & held a  BTO “C” permit bird ringing license for a number of years. She holds a Schedule 1 license for a number of species, both for ringing and photographic purposes.

Rebecca started leading wildlife tours in 2005 for the “Travelling Naturalist” & led trips to Lesvos annually & later wildlife cruises to Spitsbergen. She has also led trips for “Shetland Nature” as well as independent trips on Shetland & Fair Isle. She has been a Freelance photographer since 2005 & has had a stand in the art marquee at the British Birdwatching Fair every year since 2006.

In her wildlife photography, Rebecca has developed a clean, modern, artistic style, often bordering on natural abstracts whilst always remaining true to images as they are taken in the field, not behind a computer screen. She has had hundreds of images published worldwide in magazines, journals & books. In 2014, she produced her first photographic book with author Paul Harvey, published by the Shetland Amenity Trust & entitled “Discover Shetland’s Birds”. Down to her key eye in wildlife photography, Rebecca became a Judge for Bird Photographer of the year 2018. She has an extensive range of photographic wildlife greeting cards in various outlets nationwide & has a permanent image browser at Sea Pictures Gallery in Clare, Suffolk.

Rebecca currently lives on the Shetland Island. Alongside Rebecca’s  photography, her and her husband provide seabird tours around Shetland, exploring the wildlife she is so passionate about.
